Folk and fairy tales, the repositories of ancient wisdom can help. She will talk about how folk tales helped her write THE GRIMOIRE OF KENSINGTON MARKET and engage writers in using them to approach and deepen their own work.

Suggested exercises:
  1. Think of your favorite fairy or folk tale. Rewrite it as a short-short — 500 words or less — framed as a modern story.
  2. Consider a story or novel you’re working on. Find a story that contained the same themes.
  3. Is there an archetype in your work (there probably should be) — What is it? What folk or fairy tales contains the same archetype?
